In a year of unprecedented change and disruption, it is most important to come together to recognize those that have supported our communities and causes, and helped make the struggle more bearable. 

Join us at this year's VIRTUAL National Philanthropy Day celebration where we will honor these special individuals and organizations!

First held locally in 1987, National Philanthropy Day recognizes the great contributions of philanthropy - and those people active in the philanthropic community who have enriched our world. It also provides an opportunity to reflect on the meaning of giving 

and all that is has made possible.

WHAT IS NATIONAL PHILANTHROPY DAY?
Philanthropy is “the love of humankind,” and National Philanthropy Day® (NPD) is the day that thousands of people around the world come together to put that word into action and to recognize the change that word has brought to our communities. NPD was originally conceived of and organized by Douglas Freeman in the 1980s, and the first official events held in 1986 after President Reagan signed an official NPD proclamation.

NPD acknowledges the entire spectrum of services provided by the nonprofit community and recognizes the profound impact that philanthropy has on the fabric of society. Each year, AFP chapters around the nation honor individuals and groups who, through their hard work and dedication, have enhanced philanthropy, their communities, and the world.

The day provides an opportunity to reflect on the meaning of giving and all that it has made possible. NPD celebrates the endless daily contributions individuals and organizations across the world make to countless causes and missions.

The purpose of this day is to recognize the great contributions of philanthropy—and those people active in the philanthropic community—to the enrichment of our world. Funds raised at this event are invested back into our sector by supporting the AFPSBV’s education, networking, mentoring, and advocacy activities.

AFPSBV's annual National Philanthropy Day celebration attracts more than 250 members of the Santa Barbara & Ventura County nonprofit sector.

WHAT IS A VIRTUAL EVENT LIKE?
Our virtual event will offer many of the same components you've come to love at our in-person gathering! ABOUT AFPSBV:
The AFPSBV Chapter was founded 34 years ago to promote philanthropy and support the practice of ethical and effective fundraising. We do this through education, networking, mentoring, advocacy, and recognition. The chapter is led by an all-volunteer board of directors featuring the counties’ top fundraising professionals and hosts a variety of educational trainings throughout the year.
