"I was lucky enough to attend a sake tasting run by Melissa Mills of Sake Connect earlier this year. It was fascinating to learn the process involved in making the sake, as well as a little about the history and the different regions. We got to inspect the various grades of polished rice and sample a large variety of sake, including a lightly sparkling and one of unknown grade. It was unlike any wine tastings that I've ever attended, Melissa shared a wealth of stories and we left not only having had a fun evening but also with a greater understanding and appreciation for the art of sake making."

In contemporary Japan, high profile potters have turned their considerable skills to the evolution and development of the humble sake cup. The most revered of the ceramic artists continue to be those associated with and recognized in the world of tea, where use dictates form and texture, and connoisseurship is paramount. So now sake cups have become mini 'chawan' (tea bowls) - exhibiting all the fine characteristics of an elegant tea bowl…
“ But seeing was not the sole merit of the Tea masters. They did not stop there, for merely seeing is not seeing completely. Seeing led them to using, and using led them to seeing deeper. Without using there is no complete seeing, for nothing so emphasizes the beauty of things as their right application.“
Yanagi Soetsu 1889-1961) Founder of the Mingei Movement

"Lesley Kehoe Galleries is a beautiful Japanese gallery at 101 Collins Street. LKG events that I've been to are intimate and informative usually with a Japanese related theme. I’m looking forward to discovering more sake, the national drink of Japan coming up at the gallery soon!"

"Lesley Kehoe Galleries consummately led a sake tasting and Guinomi appreciation evening for Brisbane members of the Asian Art Society of Australia at my home - and a very educational and enjoyable time was had by all attendees."
