Batseta in association with Africa Investor is delighted to invite you all at our first ever Virtual Conference. This is a whole new experience for all of us and we are confident that it will be an ADVENTUROUS one.  

The COVID 19 pandemic disrupted the conventional in-person learning. It challenged us to explore unconventional ways to continue learning. This very first Virtual Conference platform aims to introduce us to digital way of learning.

Batseta cares about skills development and we have kept our registration fees as minimal as possible. This event has been initiated to upskill and refresh the knowledge of retirement fund fiduciaries on current discourses amongst stakeholders on the need for socio economic development in South Africa. 

The Batseta 2020 Virtual Conference will be a rich, interactive experience, that can be accessed from anywhere in the world. It incorporates all the key components of an in-person conference including keynote sessions, executive tracks, an exhibition hall and networking lounges for colleagues to meet virtually.

The conference’s interactive sessions aim to harness the investment decisions of retirement funds during these turbulent times.

COVID-19 has accelerated the need for socio-economic development globally. In South Africa, retirement funds are central to the unfolding discussions on how to finance infrastructure development.

Retirement funds by nature are long-term investors. They have always been active participants in infrastructure development all over the world to unlock economic growth. Infrastructure are basic systems that undergird the structure of the economy. These investments are part of the diversification strategies used by investors. Members tend to benefit directly by way of job creation which subsequently   create immediate spending power spin offs. 

Given the current realities, boards of trustees will be required to extensively discuss how they wish to respond to this call for infrastructure investments. Trustees will have to:

1. Determine whether their Investment Policies Statements mandate allow such investments.
2. Ensure that the fund continue to generate decent risk-adjusted financial returns, in turn provide a meaningful social impact.
3. Be certain that there is no infringement of the fund’s elective rights to achieve the best possible investment outcomes.

Our Virtual Conference aim to prepare boards of trustees on the various  aspects associated with infrastructure development. The conference programme is divided into various series / streams addressing issues on Infrastructure, Impact Investing Private Equity, Risk Management and ESG.

Our collective goal is to ensure that all the conference attendees gain  a deep understanding of the subject matters , identify skills gaps, create opportunities for future collaboration to research and exercise good data sharing.
