On August 25 & 26 2023, Foto Marlin brings you Fotografie ‘23 - Meaningful Pursuits; its 6th annual, interactive expo dedicated to all photography enthusiasts in the Basel region. Held at the Elisabethenkirche cultural center (St. Elizabeth's Church), the Fotografie ‘23 edition will be characterised by an ambitious programme, presenting the best of the photographic medium in all of its diversity. 

The timings are: 

- Friday, 25th August: 4pm-8pm
- Saturday, 26th August: 10am-5pm 

Reuniting photography lovers alike, specialists from a selection of well-known camera and accessory manufacturers will be on site to demonstrate the latest products and answer any technical questions. Expect interactive workshops, live shootings, seminars, and competitions with some of the biggest brands in the business. 

This year, the theme Meaningful Pursuits is about immersing ourselves in purposeful pursuits, embodying hope and optimism. It shines a light on the belief in ourselves, to achieve those things that are meaningful and important to us.

Photography competition - announcement:

On Saturday from 16.30 onwards we will announce the winner and runner-up for the Fotografie '23 photography competition. 

Exhibitors include the following major brands: 

Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fujifilm, Zeiss, Zeiss binoculars, Tamron, Hasselblad, Panasonic, Gitzo, Manfrotto, Godox, Novoflex, SanDisk, Lowepro, Sirui, PeakDesign, Nisi, Polaroid. 

Brand advisors and ambassadors will be on hand to show you the latest product ranges. They’ll advise you on the best prototypes for your needs and you’ll have a chance to test out your dream lens and features on your very own camera. 

We will also have a selection of special offers on items, exclusive to attendees of Fotografie ‘23.

This year Foto Marlin is delighted to announce its returning Fotografie Competition. The competition seeks to promote and elevate the skillsets of aspiring and professional photographers alike. The competition champions inclusivity and access by being free to enter. Acting as an insight into photography today in all its diversity, the competition spotlights photographers telling the stories of our time, in line with the theme of this year’s event – Meaningful Pursuits. 

The theme of Meaningful Pursuits is particularly fitting at a time when there is so much uncertainty in the world – from climate change to markets to changing land regimes. People are now, more than ever, looking for a sense of optimism, and perhaps even an escape from the day to day.

Meaningful pursuits are subjective – what currently leads to one's happiness and sense of fulfilment? What concern or challenge is one most compelled to solve? What would you do if you knew you couldn't fail? 

Meaning is truly unique to each individual. But meaning is also how we get through life. It’s how we endure its inevitable ups and downs. 

We welcome photographers of all levels, ages and backgrounds to enter our free competition. Applications open on Monday, 24th July and submissions should be made by Monday, 14th August either by:

Applicants should submit a minimum of one photo and a maximum of three photos. Each picture should have a short description which is in line with the event theme – Meaningful Pursuits. What does the picture and meaningful pursuits mean to you? Please be sure to include your full name and location with your submission. 

Winner(s) will be announced at the Fotografie ‘23 expo by way of a voting jury. All submitted images will be printed and displayed during the event.
