Open Bite Management with Clear Aligners

This lecture will provide a comprehensive review of the management of open bite malocclusions with clear aligner therapy. There will be an overview of open bite etiology, diagnostic considerations, and the inherent challenges in treatment planning. Biomechanical principles specific to clear aligners will be discussed, with emphasis on strategies to optimize vertical control and long-term stability. The second portion of the lecture will present clinical case examples to illustrate evidence-based approaches and practical applications in achieving successful open bite correction with aligners.

Participants will:
  • Get a better understanding of open bite etiology and diagnosis
  • Get an overview of the biomechanics of clear aligners
  • Learn strategies to manage open bites utilizing aligners


About Kari Graeber, DDS 

Dr. Kari Harnick Graeber is a board-certified orthodontist practicing in her hometown of Albuquerque, New Mexico. She brings a unique and well-rounded perspective to patient care, having earned her Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene from the University of New Mexico prior to pursuing dentistry.

Dr. Graeber completed her dental education t the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry in San Francisco, graduating with honors from both Tau Kappa Omega (TKO) and Omicron Kappa Upsilon (OKU). She went on to complete her orthodontic residency at Oregon Health & Science University, where she received advanced training in the full scope of orthodontic care.

Since 2018, Dr. Graeber has been practicing at Harnick Orthodontics alongside her father, Dr. David Harnick. She is an Invisalign Diamond Provider, reflecting her extensive experience with clear aligner therapy. Her dual background in dental hygiene and orthodontics gives her a collaborative, prevention-minded approach to patient care that resonates with referring general dentists.

In her free time, Dr. Graeber enjoys spending time with her husband, Jaron, their son, Caden, and their two dogs. She’s an avid rock climber and hiker who loves exploring the outdoors.
