The National AI Skills Forum 2026 is a two-day convening, designed to move Australia's AI workforce agenda from policy intent to coordinated national action. The Forum brings together senior leaders from government, industry, unions and education in Canberra on Tuesday 18 and Wednesday 19 August 2026.
Day One, How Do We Build AI Capability?, is practice-led, grounding participants in what effective AI upskilling looks like and what the system requires to scale it. The challenge here is no longer understanding that AI matters, it is knowing how to build capability effectively.
Day Two, How Do We Upskill at Scale?, shifts to system-wide transformation, discussing the priorities of the National AI Plan into agreed national actions and public commitments. The long-term challenge is not just skills development, but skills development at national scale and speed.
Together, the two days are designed to produce a shared understanding of the problem, a set of prioritised responses, and the cross-sector relationships needed to deliver them.
