Sleep, TMD, and Technology in Today's Dental Practice

The landscape of dental examination and treatment is changing rapidly with advancements in technology.

It is becoming more important for dentists to screen for sleep apnea. Making intraoral appliances for sleep apnea can seem to be overwhelming but can be overcome with training. Dentists can provide these oral appliances working with their sleep physicians. This service is very rewarding to our patients that cannot wear the CPAP.

Many of our patients suffer from oral facial pain and are seeking relief that can only be provided by dentists. Proper screening will identify these patients and you can treat or refer them. Many of these patients have been told that there is nothing that can be done but with the proper knowledge we can treat or refer them.

Course Objectives:

The identification of sleep and oral facial pain will be demonstrated and the uses of comprehensive examination, intraoral scanning, 3D printing and CBCT will be highlighted.

Identify signs and symptoms of sleep disordered breathing and occlusomuscle disorders
Understand dental treatment and referral options for sleep apnea and occlusomuscle pain
Review the use of CBCT and intraoral 3D scanning to discover dental conditions and educate patients
about their diagnosis and treatment options
Learn to use open ended questions to discover underlying dental and medical issues that affect the
patient's overall health
Recognize the value of open conversations to educate patients about the benefits of early diagnosis
and preventive measures that positively effect upper airway development
Enhance listening skills to identify patient symptoms and strengthen team communication for unified
patient care.
Create a workspace where teamwork thrives, laughter is welcomed, and everyone leaves with a smile—patients and staff alike!

About Dr. Jesek:

Dr. Jesek graduated with his dental degree from Loyola University Dental School. He continued his dental training at The Pankey Institute for Advanced Education and has been a teaching assistant in their TMJ dissection course. Additionally, Dr. Jesek earned his mastership with the Academy of General Dentistry.

His articles have been published in Dentistry Today, Dental Economics, the Pankeygram, and the American Equilibration Society’s Contact. He has presented at national meetings for the Academy of General Dentistry, the American Equilibration Society, the American Dental Association, the American Academy of Pain Management and Chicago Dental Society Midwinter Meeting. Seminar attendees appreciate his passionate, easy to understand approach and his teaching style, which enables deep learning and provides tools they can use when they get back to the office Monday morning.

The CE Innovators webinar series consists of six webinars presented on the last Tuesday of January, March, May, July, September, & November. The series includes clinical and management topics. The webinars will be presented live and will be available to registrants by on-demand recordings for 30 days following.
