"C.O.G.S.? Isn't that just another Steampunk convention?"
Not Even Close.
C.O.G.S. Expo is the annual event held in May by the C.O.G.S. Foundation. The C.O.G.S. Foundation is a nonprofit filing for 501(c)(3) status as an educational venture trying to bring the Steampunk community together.
How & Why
After the great Steam-pocalypse of 2018, when a major Steampunk event in the Mid-Atlantic was canceled, many entertainers, vendors, and community members were left without an event at which to celebrate their Steampunk love. The community rose up, as a whole, and created an event out of nothing, in less than a month. 800 people attended that event, and good fun and shenanigans abounded.
That event was called, by vote of the community, C.O.G.S., which stands for Community Organized Gathering of Steampunks.
Everyone in attendance agreed that the love and comradery shared that weekend was the true essence of the Steampunk Community and it should be celebrated every year.
To do this, a few members of the original organizational committee came together and formed a nonprofit. This is the C.O.G.S. Foundation. Its mission statement is "Empowering the Steampunk Community".
The Foundation's major goal is to hold one large event every year celebrating the amazing artists, entertainers, and makers that represent all that is Steampunk and to bring together the Community that calls them 'family'.
Throughout the rest of the year, the foundation works to fulfill its mission statement with fundraisers, meet-ups, and community projects. They also support their community by attending other Steampunk and Steampunk-related events to further communication, inclusivity, and empower others with a love of Steampunk.
C.O.G.S. Foundation is all about helping others and that is why they will be partnering with one or more charities in the coming year. Please stay tuned for details.
