2022 International Borlaug Dialogue

The 2022 Borlaug Dialogue will be conducted in a hybrid format, with virtual and in-person participation in Des Moines, Iowa. This year’s theme, “Feeding a Fragile World,” focuses on the nexus of agriculture, food security and climate change addressing adaptation and mitigation solutions to reach the SDGs by 2030. The triple threat of COVID, conflict, and climate embodies the multiple challenges the global food system faces now and in the future. The event will address scalable solutions for adaptation and mitigation to limit planetary warming below 1.5° C and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

This theme is an acknowledgment of profound vulnerability but is also rooted in action and hope. That hope is borne out in the call to action letter recently published by 22 World Food Prize Laureates and is evident in the work of our 2022 World Food Prize Laureate, Dr. Cynthia Rosenzweig.

Mainstage events will be held from Oct. 18 - 20, while hybrid side events will take place from Oct. 12 - 21, 2022. Check out the 'Agenda' tab above to see our schedule of events. A PDF schedule can be found below.

The Borlaug Dialogue will be hosted at the Iowa Events Center (IEC), with side events hosted at the Iowa Events Center and the Hilton Des Moines Downtown. We anticipate approximately 500 - 700 guests.

Our room block at the Hilton Des Moines Downtown is currently at capacity.  We reserved a room block at Hotel Fort Des Moines. The hotel has access to the Iowa Event Center through the skywalk. Please find the special reservation link for our event at this booking link. Other hotel options include the Renaissance Savery Hotel, Embassy Suites, Hampton Inn & Suites, and Fairfield Inn & Suites.

Planned participants include policymakers and other government officials, representatives of the private sector, officials of international organizations, academics, farmers, scientists, students and educators. Numerous plenaries, breakout sessions, side events, exhibitions, networking opportunities and receptions will allow all participants to collaborate on issues such as climate change and increased agricultural uncertainty, innovations in climate-smart agriculture and on how climate change could make food less nutritious. Participants will explore pathways in food systems to adapt to and mitigate the climate emergency.
