**NCS Needs Your Support**

Founded in 1935, the Newburyport Choral Society (NCS) is one of the largest community choral societies in New England, and one of the nation’s oldest choral groups. Comprised of approximately 125 singers from more than thirty communities in eastern Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire, we are a non-auditioned Chorus that range in age from high school students to retirees that hold diverse musical backgrounds.

During this challenging time, we are proud that we are able to continue our 86-year history as a choral organization.

A comment I heard from renowned Canadian choral conductor Kellie Walsh has inspired us over the past few months: “If choirs are only about making music, they will die. But if they are about teaching and learning, growing, connecting, community, and cultural exploration, they will thrive.”

Even though it remains unsafe for us to sing together, NCS has been able to work hard so as to thrive.

With the creativity and leadership of our Music Director Ryan Turner, and with the wholehearted dedication and “can-do” attitude of our Board members, NCS singers have been able to stay together as a chorus and experience an innovative program allowing them to grow musically and vocally.

However, for NCS not to merely survive, but THRIVE, we need your help.

We are steadfast in our efforts to sustain NCS during these uncertain times, but we must not underestimate the challenges that we face. Our fall semester program connects and maintains our membership, but it will not result in the usual ticket sales and advertising revenue that we rely on. In addition to professional services and fixed expenses which we must cover, we now incur ongoing costs in technology support necessary for virtual programming.

Your support, through participation in our auction and donations, is vital to ensuring the future of the Newburyport Choral Society as part of our community’s cultural life.
