NONPROFITS UNITING FOR SECTOR HEALTH AND ADVOCACY:

Community Connections, Session 2

Join us for the second of a 3-topic series on

our interactive virtual event platform

This PFE Community Connections series is intentionally designed to:

  • Lift up curious inquiry, positive mindsets and opportunities to inform and benefit how we navigate this time through conversations
  • Leverage the PFE hallmark of interacting with colleagues who share our passion, values and strengths of the social sector
  • Acknowledge the impact of this pandemic on nonprofit services and our workforce

At each 3-hour session, join peers for networking in the virtual space. An opening panel or dialogue will introduce the program. Then, participants will select a breakout room where you will be invited to reflect, relate and activate deeper conversations around today's topic. Throughout the day, the virtual space will remain open for self-selected networking, peer meet-ups and 1:1 meetings. At the end of each Community Connection day, PFE will host a digital happy hour. Following the series, Leading-From-Within will partner via follow-on peer offerings aligned with sector interest around PFE topics.

This PFE digital series hopes to engage some of our lost connectivity, creativity and sector spirit. Come experiment with us around the simple powers of conversation.

There are several options for you to participate in the series:

  • Attend one, two or all three Community Connection sessions
  • Join one, two or all three informal social networking hours
  • Volunteer to be a conversation liaison to a small group breakout, or simply join the conversation of your choice

*Please note: You must register to participate in any part of our program.

November 12: Nonprofits Uniting for Sector Health and Advocacy

In Santa Barbara County, and throughout our nation, the nonprofit sector is fundamental to the health and well-being of our families, communities, and all aspects of daily life. Nonprofit organizations mobilize resources in service of our deepest values and are called to lead when innovative solutions are needed to address the most complex challenges of our times. Despite the important role we play, nonprofits often lack the power to create change needed for their clients or their organizational interests.

For the past year, a group of executive leaders from the nonprofit sector have worked together to create a vision for the Nonprofit Council of Santa Barbara County. Building upon past efforts with similar intentions, this group feels urgency to activate efforts to harness the power and strength — politically and economically — of our nonprofit sector in the current moment. Imagine what could happen if critical decisions at the policymaking level included nonprofit voices, insights, and leadership.  What would it look like if our voices truly impacted decision-making and policy creation?

As we navigate the complex issues of our times, nonprofit sector leadership is needed now, perhaps more than ever before. We invite you to learn about and help inform this vision by exploring the following questions, in dialogue with others:

  • How might a Nonprofit Council benefit our work and our communities?
  • How will we measure sector progress/impact?
  • What, if anything, about an effort to create a regional Nonprofit Council might help you feel supported in your efforts?
  • How can we best tell the story of the power, relevance and impact of our sector (workforce, economics, innovations)? Which aspects are most important to share now?
  • What do we mean by advocacy? Which types of advocacy should the Nonprofit Council prioritize?
  • How might it look if we successfully mobilize nonprofit organizations and their employees in support of policies and improved effectiveness of regional systems?

About the Partnership for Excellence

Generously sponsored by The Foundation Roundtable for more than 25 years, the Partnership for Excellence (PFE) convenes hundreds of Santa Barbara County nonprofit and foundation staff and leaders to learn, network, and collaborate together. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, PFE 2020 at The Alisal Ranch was canceled in April. This fall, our sponsors are stepping forward to offer a free, digital series focused on re-connecting members of our sector.
