Mario Bastidas was a paramedic in Division 4, Queens when the WTC was attacked on September 11, 2001. Without hesitation, he responded to that attack, along with thousands of other first responders, spending many months down at Ground Zero during the Rescue and later on the recovery phase.

In August of 2010, Mario was promoted to Lieutenant, where he was assigned to Division 3, Station 58. He never forgot his roots, which made him such an outstanding lieutenant.

Unfortunately, in May of 2011, Mario was diagnosed with Cancer, attributed to his time spent down at Ground Zero, He continued to work through his disease until he was unable. Mario lost his battle on April 1, 2017, leaving behind his beautiful wife Penelope and his two furry children Seamus & Stone ,plus a multitude of family & friends who love him.

The memorial ride is to Honor Mario and the countless other hero's who responded to 9/11 and have died and continue to suffer from physical ailments and mental health conditions brought on by that faithful day.

The 1 day ride on Sunday 7/14 from Fort Totten through Manhattan to FDNY EMS Station 22, where we will end the day with a Bar B Que.

There are 2 & 3 day options to ride. Participants to these options have to make their own arrangements home.

The 4 day ride will consist of a fully supported ride from Station 22 to Crystal City, VA, where will arrive on the afternoon Wednesday 7/17.

There will be a bike ride on Friday 7/19 hosted by the National EMS Memorial Bike Ride {MuddyAngels}, that is a separate registration from the Lt Mario Bastidas Memorial Bike Ride. Register at https://nemsmbr.org/

The National EMS Memorial Service will be at the Hyatt Crystal City on Saturday 7/20. {5 Minute walk from our hotel}

We will be providing transportation back to Fort Totten on Sunday 7/21.

A more detailed itinerary will be emailed to all registered participants!

The hotel list will be sent out to any multi day registrar along with the route! Hotel reservations are the sole responsibility of each registered participant.

The FDNY EMS Bike Team is sponsoring this event in loving memory of Lt Mario Bastidas and all our Brothers & Sisters who we lost on 9/11, and the members we have lost in the years since and those that are still suffering, both physical & mental trauma!

All proceeds will be benefit charities which are close to our hearts, including the EMS Help Fund, Paws of War & the H & H Scholarship Fund!
